Dear Friend,
One of the scariest things just happened today. I was walking down the street just across from The Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. It was around 10:30 AM and all of a sudden the floor shook and a very loud noise pierced my ears. Now I looked left and saw people running out of the church. People were screaming for help. Smoke filled the air. Everyone was trying to find their family members. The streets were filled with people trying to see what had happened. Some bystanders tried to get inside the church to see what happened, but the police surrounded the church and would not let them in. Police were helping anyone who had gotten injured. I tried to comfort those who had minor injuries.
By 5:00 PM, the church was still surrounded, but the smoke was gone. I finally went home to get some rest after a very difficult day. I turned on the evening news to find out that the police had gone inside the church and had found four young girls killed. The police began to hunt for clues and investigate what happened. What they found in the basement of the church shocked them. They found the remains of a bomb. The search began for suspects. We were all scared something else was going to happen. There have been so many attacks on African-Americans in the last few years around the country. I sure hope there won't be more violence here in Birmingham. I just want everyone to be treated equally and a peaceful country to live in.
From,
Mark
